I am worried my manhood is shrinking and I can’t get an erection
DEAR DEIDRE: PREVIOUSLY, I never had any problems in the bedroom department but in the past couple of years my erection has got weaker and now I can’t get one at all.
I still feel aroused but it doesn’t show.
My wife is very patient with me but I am so frustrated

My other problem is I’m sure my penis is shrinking – it looks smaller than it used to.
My wife is very patient and has told me she doesn’t mind. But I do.
She told me to accept I’m getting older and won’t be able to do the things a young man can. But I’m not ready to give up.
I am 53 and she is 48. I have also recently been diagnosed as a diabetic. What can I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: I’m afraid that a common side-effect of being diabetic is a weakened erection.
This is because the condition hampers blood flow and sometimes there is nerve damage in the extremities, sometimes including the penis.
It is important though to have a healthy sex life so seek help through Diabetes UK, which has plenty of information about possible treatments.
Its website is full of good advice. Check out diabetes.org.uk (0345 123 399).
You can also talk to your GP and ask for a referral to a urologist.
Please don’t be embarrassed about asking. Medical professionals are trained to deal with all aspects of patients’ health.
They may be able to prescribe something that will help.
