$13 Million Contract Extension For Former Clippers Veteran Makes NBA Fans Go Crazy

It looks like the Minnesota Timberwolves have locked in veteran Patrick Beverley for at least one more season. The team had acquired Beverley last August and seem sure about playing another campaign with him on board. Of course, NBA Twitter had some opinionated reactions to the news, as many focused on the actual contract and its specifications.

As per Beverley’s agent, the Timberwolves and the 33-year-old have agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract.

Most fans had mixed feelings about the decision, not entirely against the idea of Beverley sticking around for another season.

Overall, fans seem to agree that Beverley is a good addition to the Timberwolves. However, they did seem to have an issue with the $13 million. To most users, Beverley is being overpaid.

He’s more than a defender. His energy and leadership is all a team like Minnesota, who’s been to the playoffs twice since 03, needed, and he’s the apart of the reason why there in the playoff picture this year.

Certain fans chose to accept the situation as is and tried to understand why Clippers made the decision. Currently averaging 9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, Beverley adds more to the team than meets the eye. Beverley is not only good with defense but also possesses valuable experience helpful to the team and younger players.

That being said, many agree that maybe they could have signed a slightly cheaper extension.

Of course, fans defended Beverley as well. Many thought he deserved the contract extension completely, and the team was lucky to have a player like him on board.

More on Beverley’s contract and what it can mean

Having said that, this contract extension comes at the end of his $40 million, three-year deal.

While Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell are leading the team, Beverley’s contributions will remain crucial. His three-year stint with the Los Angeles Clippers adds invaluable experience, and can only help guide the younger bunch.

Furthermore, this means that the team will most likely be without a salary cap during the upcoming NBA free agency. What they can use, however, is a $10 million mid-level exception to stay below the estimated $147 million luxury tax.

The team is currently placed seventh in the Western Conference with a 30-27 win-loss record. Following a 129-120 win against the Indiana Pacers, they will be facing the Charlotte Hornets next.
