How to see who likes your Instagram Stories after NEW update changes app

A HUGE Instagram update changes how everyone “likes” Stories.

You can now see a list of people who have “liked” your Story.

Before the update, “liking” a Story would create a Direct Message.

This bizarre system meant that users might feel forced to react to reactions.

And it could easily clog up a Direct Messages inbox if you’re a regular Story liker.

Instagram has now changed this, showing Story likes in a totally different way.

“Starting to roll out today, you can now send some love by liking people’s stories without sending a DM,” said Instagram boss Adam Mosseri.

“Likes on stories are private and do not have counts.

“Rather, they appear as hearts next to people’s handles in your Stories view sheet.”

Instagram’s decision to not have a “like counter” is no surprise.

The company has gradually moved away from tallying likes in recent years.

Like-counts on photos are now optional, to remove the social pressure that comes with racking up high numbers.

To “like” an Instagram story, first update your app in the App Store on iPhone or the Google Play Store for Android.

Then view someone’s Story from the top of your feed (or via a profile picture) as normal.

You’ll now see a heart next to the Send Message area.

Tap the heart and it’ll “like” the Story.

How to see you liked your Instagram Stories

Previously, liking an Instagram story would send a heart via DMs.

But now you’ll have to view these likes in a different way.

Tap on your Story in the top-left of the app – assuming you’ve posted one recently.

Then in the corner, you’ll be able to see a profile icon of another user.

This means someone has seen your Story.

Tap it and you’ll get a list of all of the people who have viewed your Story.

And if a person has “liked” the Story, a heart will appear next to their name.

These “likes” aren’t public to anyone but the Story creator.

And there’s no total “like” counter either.
