Mikaela Shiffrin Finishes Way too Far From Podium in Recent Event; Can She Still Win Olympic Gold at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022?
The Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 proved to be a tough time for Mikaela Shiffrin. Moreover, she lost her chance of winning an Olympic medal in her latest event. Hence, it’s been a disastrous Olympics to date. By crashing out in the slalom and giant slalom competitions, things are going down for the champion. Thus, there is only one event now, to help her fetch the medal. The combined competition.
Despite being a two-time Olympic gold medalist, her performances in Beijing have been sketchy. Thus, Shiffrin is looking to get back to winning ways. The combined competition would be even tougher as it is a mixture of all.
Are there any more events for Mikaela Shiffrin?
Things are not clicking for her anymore. But, her hopes can be ignited with the last combined competition. It involves one downhill run along with two slalom runs and will be the last competition for her to finish on the podium. At the form at which she is going, it looks highly unlikely. However, looking at her past, she has won the silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics for this event, which can be a boost of confidence for her.

Likewise, the 2021 World Championships saw her winning the gold medal for this competition. It’s safe to say, it is the best event for her in the previous years. Keeping her hopes high would be required but Shiffrin is rather not focused on winning a medal anymore. She spoke about focusing on just competing rather than winning a medal.
Shiffrin is not focused on winning a medal
Heading to the downhill competition, she spoke about not focusing on the victories but just getting a chance to compete in these races. Her Olympics have been dreadful until now and Shiffrin is living in the present.
“I’m not focusing on the medal anymore. It’s just trying to do my best execution every day. Anyway, that’s my best shot at a medal. So it’s a little bit of maybe a paradox … that your best chance to have that performance is to stop thinking about the performance and to focus on what you’re doing in that moment. So I’m just trying to be present in the moment, especially with the downhill,” said Shiffrin.

Hence, with just one more competition to go, fans would hope her to perform well in the event. As for Shiffrin, this is her last chance to win a medal in this year’s Olympics.
