This Is Going To Hurt, the BBC’s brand new drama, premiered on February 8, giving viewers a witty and eye-opening account of what goes on behind the scenes in an NHS hospital.

The seven-episode series is based on Adam Kay’s real-life diary entries from his days as a junior doctor, which were published as a memoir back in 2017.

Like all medical dramas, the show is based in a hospital setting and many viewers have been wondering which hospital the show is filmed in.

Here’s everything we know about This Is Going To Hurt’s filming locations.

Where was This Is Going To Hurt filmed?

The show was filmed between February 2021 and June 2021 amid Covid-19 lockdowns and, thus, restrictions were still very serious.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, This Is Going To Hurt couldn’t be filmed in a real-life hospital.

Speaking to the Express, the show’s executive producer Jane Featherstone revealed that the challenges of filming during Covid made the production ‘chaotic’.

When asked what the experience of making the show was like, Jane explained: ‘A little bit like being a junior doctor, I think!

‘We made it in the time of Covid so I think there were some similar challenges.’

The production crew built a custom-built hospital set for the series.

The set was created in an unused arts college building in East London’s Mile End area.

The set was so convincing that it gave Adam Kay flashbacks. Talking to Metro, Kay said: ‘Spending so much time back in a hospital environment brought stuff flooding back — I’d come back from set and write in my diary about something that happened 15 years ago.’

The bestselling comedian and author worked within the obstetrics and gynaecology department before leaving his career in medicine in 2010.

He’s never publicly disclosed which hospitals he worked in. So, we don’t know if the set was inspired by the actual hospitals he worked in.

Production staff members were also spotted in Camden near Bloomsbury Street and Marchmont Street, so they may have filmed some scenes there, too.
