El Chapo’s wife Emma Coronel serving 3-year sentence in minimum-security prison after pleading guilty to drug charges

EMMA Coronel, wife of drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, has been transferred to a minimum-security federal prison to continue serving her three-year sentence.

Coronel will be sent to Forth Worth, Texas for the remainder of her sentence for drug trafficking and money laundering.

The beauty queen was sentenced back in November to three years in prison and agreed to forfeit nearly $1.5million.

During her sentencing, she asked the judge for forgiveness, adding that she didn’t want her daughters to grow up without either of their parents.

“My daughters are the most important motive for which I accept my mistakes and I ask for forgiveness for them,” the beauty queen said in Spanish.

“I don’t want my daughters to grow up without their mother,” Coronel told the judge.

In his final words to Coronel, Judge Rudolph Contreras told her: “I hope you raise your twins in a different environment than you’ve experienced to date. Good luck.”

Coronel was also sentenced to four years supervised release.

Her three-year sentence was a year less than what the prosecution had asked Judge Contreras.
