Where is Grantchester filmed? Filming locations and the real village behind the series revealed
ITV WILL see crime solving return to the Cambridgeshire village of Granchester, as the show’s seventh series is set to be released in March.
Step behind the scenes of the detective drama by learning more about the real village of Grantchester, along with the other filming locations.
Grantchester’s seventh season will soon be shown on ITV
Where is Grantchester filmed?
South Cambridgeshire
As its name suggests, the majority of the show’s scenes are shot in Grantchester, a small village that lies on the River Cam in South Cambridgeshire.
The district has a population of around 540 and settlement there dates all the way back to the 1086 Domesday Book.
Though the leafy town may look humble, it is said to have the world’s highest concentration of Nobel Prize winners – perhaps because the University of Cambridge is nearby.
During a Grantchester summer you’re likely to see locals or visitors punting along the River Cam or stopping for a picnic in the meadows.
King’s College Cambridge
The colleges of Cambridge are frequently used as backdrops for the detective drama, including the picturesque campus of King’s College Cambridge.
King’s College owns Grantchester Meadows, and in 2021 the college banned people from entering the River Cam from the meadows due to fears of injury claims from wild swimmers.
London
Grantchester has been known to swap the suburbs for the city.
King’s Parade in Cambridge, and Kings Cross Station and Borough Market in the capital have been settings for episodes in previous series.
Where is season 7 of Grantchester set?
The seventh series is set in the summer of 1959.
While a new decade is just around the corner, the show will be staying in Grantchester.
The synopsis of this series reads: “As the Reverend Will Davenport unites happy couples in holy matrimony, Detective Inspective Geordie Keating is busy as ever investigating a range of local murder cases.”
