American Idol 2022 LIVE – Season 20 starts TONIGHT after teaser shows judge Katy Perry break down in tears

AMERICAN Idol is back for its twentieth season tonight.

Season 20 of American Idol is premiere is set to air on ABC at 8pm ET on Sunday.

The premiere comes after a teaser clip for the new season showed judge Katy Perry breaking down in tears after hearing a devastating story from one of the contestants.

Katy, 37, became highly emotional during the preview trailer after learning one of the contestant’s tragic stories.

The video began with the singer giving a confessional to the camera, saying: “Sometimes a person will walk into the room. We can empathize with them.

“There are no mistakes when you’re honest,” she explained.
