Islam Makhachev walked the talk as he finished Bobby ‘King’ Green in the first round of their bout at UFC Vegas 49 to come even closer to the title fight he has been yearning for so long.

Bobby Green came in on a ten days’ short notice against Khabib Nurmagomedov’s disciple Islam Makhachev at UFC Vegas 49. Green, who is a UFC veteran, walked into the octagon as a huge underdog. The catchweight fight was put together in a hurry and it got finished just as quickly as well.

Makhachev, who is an ace grappler and Sambo specialist, showed his prowess in both of the departments as he pushed Green onto the fence right from the start and landed blows on Green to put the pressure on the 35-year-old.

It was only a matter of time until the fight got onto the mat and Makhachev did that into the 3rd minute of the first round. Then Makhachev got on top of Green and made a swift work of the ‘King’ with ground and pound as he landed a flurry of punches on Green. Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight and gave the win to the Russian via technical knockout.

What’s next for Islam Makhachev?

Although the Russian camp, including the lightweight legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, is vouching for a title shot for Islam Makhachev, the lightweight himself asked for another fight.

Makhachev, in his post-fight interview, called out Beneil Dariush, who pulled out of the match because of an injury to get well and meet him in the octagon again. Hence, that is the fight to make in a couple of months.
