‘Big Congratulations Will Smith!’ – Serena Williams Reacts in Excitement After King Richard Bags Accolades

It was the year 1999. Serena Williams was up against Martina Hingis in the US Open final that year. The Swiss had already defeated her sister, Venus Williams, en route to the final. After Hingis hit the backhand return long in the second-set tiebreaker, Serena cried in jubilation. She had won her first Grand Slam title back then.

The younger Williams sister has had a legendary career, winning an astonishing 23 Grand Slam singles titles. Additionally, she dominated the doubles game too as she paired up with sister Venus to win 14 major titles. On top of that, they have also combined to win three Olympic gold medals.

Richard Williams, her father, played an all-important role in shaping up the sisters’ game. ‘King Richard’, a film based on Serena and Venus’ father, released last year and opened up to rave applause. Recently, the film received laurels at the NAACP awards.

Serena Williams congratulates Will Smith for NAACP win

The American star took to Instagram to congratulate Mr. Smith for winning the NAACP award in ‘Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture’ category. She wrote, “Big congratulations Will Smith on your NAACP win!!”

Will Smith defeated the likes of Denzel Washington, Jonathan Majors, LaKeith Stanfield, and Mahershala Ali to win this award.

Also, ‘King Richard’ bagged yet another award recently. Smith was selected as the best ‘Male Actor in a Leading Role — Motion Picture’ at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. He was emotional after he received the accolade and said that it may have been one of the greatest moments of his career.
