Peaky Blinders series 6 premiere is drama’s biggest ever launch

It will come as no surprise that the new series of Peaky Blinders is its biggest yet.
The sixth and final series premiered on Sunday night on BBC to staggering viewing figures.
The drama had an impressive 3.8million viewers for the first episode, making it the most successful launch in the show’s history.
In comparison, the series 5 launch garnered 3.7million viewers.
As well, the period crime drama finished in fourth position against other channels during the same slot.
The Good Karma Hospital finished third, with Antiques Roadshow in second.

The suspenseful finale of Trigger Point had a mega 5million views.
Peaky Blinders’ success comes after fans were left in tears as the show honoured late cast member Helen McCrory.
The actress died from cancer, aged 52, last year.
She played Polly Gray in the series, with her character laid to rest in the series 6 premiere.

The actress’s character was written out in episode one of the final chapter, titled Black Day, with Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby breaking down in tears after he’s informed that his aunt Polly has been killed, with her body then delivered to his home.
A funeral scene soon followed, with Polly laid to rest alongside her portrait.
Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson), Ada Thorne (Sophie Rundle), Michael Gray (Finn Cole), Lizzie Shelby (Natasha O’Keeffe), Johnny Dogs (Packy Lee), and Jeremiah ‘Jimmy’ Jesus (Benjamin Zephaniah) gathered as a wagon was engulfed by flames.
At the end of the episode, before the credits rolled, it was revealed that the instalment had been dedicated to McCrory as a tribute flashed onto the screen.

Emotional viewers also reckon they’ve figured out whose death will be next, with the ending of the episode posing more questions.
