New Girl stars share heartbroken tributes after Ralph Ahn dies aged 95: ‘This man lived a lot of life’

New Girl actor Ralph Ahn has died, at the age of 95.

The star, most known for his role as neighbor Tran in the sitcom, died on February 26, the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (Kafla) confirmed in a statement.

Korean news outlet YNA reported that he was recently hospitalized for an unknown illness.

His cause of death has not been confirmed.

Following the news, his New Girl co-stars were among those sharing tributes to the late star.

Jake Johnson, who played Nick Miller in the comedy, posted a heartfelt message of condolence on Instagram.

Alongside screen grabs of their scenes together – in which Tran played a grandfatherly figure to Nick but rarely spoke – he penned: ‘RIP. So much fun to work with. He gave so much with literally no lines. 

‘I loved when he was on set. I was always expecting to somehow work with him again. Condolences to his family/friends.’

Zooey Deschanel replied underneath his upload, simply penning: ‘Noooooo.’

Winston actor Lamorne Morris wrote: ‘Damn. RIP to Ralph Ahn. He played Tran on New Girl. Always the funniest scenes in the episode. 

‘This man lived a lot of life, keep his friends and family in yall thoughts and prayers.’

Hannah Simone, who starred as Cece in New Girl, said: ‘He was so funny and made everyone in a scene with him funnier. Love to his family and friends.’

She added on her Instagram story: ‘Thank you #RalphAhn for being the best. 

‘You brought so much joy to our lives and helped pave the way for all of the AAPI actors that would follow you. We love you. RIP.’
