People watching Kate Garraway’s new series Your Body Uncovered have showered it with praise, describing the fascinating show as ‘unbelievable’ and ‘moving’.

After making waves with her documentary films Finding Derek and Caring For Derek, which documented the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on her husband Derek Draper’s health, Kate has launched her new BBC Two programme to help people understand their medical issues.

In the first episode, she met fashion influencer Hilda, who suffered from debilitating fibroids causing her uterus to be 40 times larger than it should have been, and Trudi, who was struggling with a frozen shoulder.

The series premiere saw both women don VR headsets to take a close look at what was going on inside their bodies, before they both underwent medical procedures to try and alleviate their pain.

While Trudi received steroid injections, Hilda had an operation that saw consultant gynaecologist Mr Stephen Quinn remove 100 fibroids from her body, as she was warned beforehand that there was a chance she would have to have a hysterectomy.

However, in the end the doctor was able to remove the fibroids – including some that they hadn’t previously spotted – while leaving Hilda’s uterus intact, meaning that she still has a chance of becoming pregnant in future, a wish she strongly desires to make a reality.

Viewers were left in awe by the stories shown on the programme, with many sharing how sad they felt over the agonising pain Hilda must have been in and questioning how it was possible that her fibroids could become so severe without prior intervention.

They also expressed how happy they were to witness her transformation after her operation, as she was finally able to wear tight-fitting clothes that she had previously avoided.

‘Body uncovered. Unbelievable and moving programme. Helping me to understand both conditions which I have had. We should all be able to see it like this, somehow,’ one person tweeted.

‘@kategarraway #yourbodyuncovered really good presentation of women problems – clarity and sympathetically done. So helpful to many woman,’ another wrote.

Just watched BBC2’s medical show with @kategarraway, absolutely fascinating stuff – that hour flew by. How fantastic is technology, pity we don’t all have access to it. But so pleased for the two ladies involved in tonight’s show to get the treatment they needed to help them.

We must continue to raise awareness to save lives and help find a cure to this monstrous illness. Thank you.’

She also said that she felt ‘truly blessed and grateful’ to the staff at Imperial in London ‘for the amazing care I received while I was in hospital’.
