Netflix series Lupin ‘suffers £250,000 robbery’ days after thousands of pounds worth of jewellery stolen from The Crown

Equipment worth a staggering hundreds of thousands of Euros has reportedly been stolen from the set of Netflix series Lupin days after props were robbed from The Crown.

It has been claimed that while Part 3 of the French heist drama was being filmed in the neighbourhood of Nanterre on the outskirts of Paris, around 20 people with their faces covered broke onto set by throwing mortar fireworks.

According to AFP, an estimated €300,000 (£250,000) worth of equipment was taken, with filming resuming on Monday February 28 after a brief break.

In a statement sent to Variety, Netflix said that ‘there was an incident on February 25 while filming the upcoming season of Lupin.’

‘Our cast and crew are safe and there were no injuries,’ they added.

An investigation is said to have been launched into the incident by the authorities in the region of Nanterre.

The news of the burglary of equipment comes shortly after it was revealed that thieves stole jewels worth £150,000 from Netflix period drama The Crown while season five was being filmed.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: ‘Police were called at 4.30pm on Wednesday 16 February following a report of theft from vehicles at Pastures Road, Doncaster.

‘Officers investigated the incident but all existing lines of inquiry have now been exhausted. The case has been filed pending any new lines of inquiry.’

It was said that 200 objects were stolen, including an expensive replica of a Russian Fabergé Egg purchased by King George V and Queen Mary, jewellery, a grandfather clock, silverware, and a candelabra.

A Netflix spokesperson said the incident would not hold up filming as ‘replacements will be found’.

On February 15, Lupin star Omar was in attendance at the prestigious César Awards, performing dance choreography on stage to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his acclaimed film The Intouchables, for which he received the César Award for Best Actor.

The actor encouraged other people in attendance to join in with his dancing, having cut some shapes in an iconic routine to Earth, Wind and Fire’s Boogie Wonderland during a scene in the film.
