6′10″ Giant Mychal Thompson, Who Is Klay Thompson’s Father, Admits He Was Afraid of Shaquille O’Neal
Playing against Shaquille O’Neal would certainly have given many players nightmares. The Lakers legend was considered to be the most dominant player of all time. Even a double team or a triple-team wasn’t enough to stop Shaq. They had to develop strategies to limit him, but that didn’t matter to Shaq.
Players dreaded playing against Shaq and one of them is a Lakers legend of the showtime era. Mychal Thompson, the father of Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson, says he would have absolutely hated to play against Shaq. Thompson had retired before Shaq came into the league, so he didn’t have an opportunity to play against him. However, the former 6′10″ center indicated that he was more than happy to not go against Shaq.

Thompson tweeted out a photo of him and Shaq with the captions saying, “Ohhhh I am so glad THIS guy wasn’t in the leeg wen I played center…I wudda come down with a Shaq virus befor evry Magic/Laker game…COFF COFF SNIFF SNIFF BARF BARF…”

Shaq was a monster in his first year itself. He was voted the Rookie of the Year and an all-star in his first year in the league. Thompson would have had a tough time dealing with Shaq as a lot of people did.
By his second year, Shaq was averaging 29 PPG, and he was one of the league’s best players if not the best. He was a multiple-time all-star and four-time NBA champion and won an MVP award as well. He was also a three-time Finals MVP as well during his Lakers years.

During his peak, Shaq was damn near unstoppable and a lot of players would have hated playing against him. Luckily for Thompson, he didn’t have to as he retired before then.
