Have certain dates on TikTok gone viral before?

This is not the first time a particular date has gone viral on TikTok.

In the past, TikTok users have feared certain dates for no tangible reason.

In 2020, TikTok users began a trend surrounding the date of August 27, 2020.

The August 27 trend first went viral by a video posted by TikTok user stfusamantha.

Viewers of the TikTok video were told to remember the date and that they were chosen. The ambiguity of the video led people to hysteria and helped it gain traction on social media.

Why is TikTok updating its guidlines?

TikTok often updates its guidelines to help make the platform a safer place for its community members.

TikTok continues to remove content it deems inappropriate and has tightened its guidelines over the past few years.

Head of TikTok’s trust and safety, Cormac Keenan, stated the new guidelines will: “strengthen our dangerous acts and challenges policy, broaden our approach to eating disorders, add clarity on the types of hateful ideologies prohibited on our platform, and expand our policy to protect the security, integrity, availability, and reliability of our platform.”

On March 7, 2022, TikTok users will begin to see these new guidelines in effect.
