‘An Underground Wine Cellar’ – Venus Williams Takes a Tour of Paris at the Caves du Louvre

Venus Williams has been one of the most dominant players in the women’s circuit ever since she made her Grand Slam debut back in 1997. In her maiden appearance at the US Open, her ‘home’ Grand Slam, she caught everyone’s eyes with her performance. Venus finished as the runners-up in that tournament, losing to the top seed, Martina Hingis, in the summit clash.

Venus has tasted success in the doubles too, clinching 14 Grand Slam doubles titles partnering with her younger sister, Serena Williams. Recently, the former World Number 1 was in France, where she took a tour of the capital city, Paris.

Venus Williams visits an underground wine cellar

The elder Williams sister posted a reel on her official Instagram handle, where she was seen taking a tour of the Caves Du Louvre in Paris. Further, the caption read, “We’re going to continue our tour of Paris at the Caves Du Louvre, an underground wine cellar built by Trudon, the sommelier of Louis XV, in his cellar.”

Caves du Louvre was built in the 18th century. It was once a royal wine cellar. Trudon ordered the construction of this cellar. Subsequently, he established a wine supply business here. History suggests that the wine was supplied to the Louvre Palace in complete secrecy through a network of tunnels. Recently, the Caves du Louvre has undergone renovation and has been open to the public since.

Coming to tennis, Venus has been out of action since she suffered a leg injury last year. Her last appearance was at the WTA Chicago Women’s Open in August 2021.
