WWE legend Scotty 2 Hotty hails Otis as ‘300lb Kurt Angle’ just waiting to break out

Scotty 2 Hotty thinks WWE has the next Kurt Angle on its roster in the form of Otis.

The Attitude Era legend has worked with the former amateur wrestler – who now holds the Raw Tag Team Titles with his Alpha Academy partner Chad Gable – at the Performance Center, and he thinks he’s got a lot more to show fans.

Ever since debuting in NXT, Gable has been seen as a natural successor to Olympic Gold Medalist Angle, but he noted Otis also has the skills to forge a similar path.

Scotty – who left WWE in November and is currently on a tour of the UK – exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘He’s like a 300 pound Kurt Angle! He can do all of it! He’s a bit of a joker and a clown, but he’s a legit wrestler.’

He insisted the man behind the camera is just ‘hilarious’, and he wants to see more of that on-screen as he believes the character has almost become the straight man to Gable’s comedic side.

‘Otis is such a character without even trying. They changed his whole character up, and now he’s like everybody else to me. I loved what he was doing – not just because he was doing the Worm, but he was like a real life Chris Farley,’ he laughed.

‘You can just look at him and go, “That guy’s hilarious”, he doesn’t even have to open his mouth, just his mannerisms! The real guy is just hilarious, so I don’t know why they didn’t capatalise on that, it feels like they made him like everyone else.

‘I hate that for him – maybe he likes it, I haven’t talked to him about it. I just loved who he was, because it was him.’

However, he doesn’t think it’s too late for Otis to realise his potential in a big way, and the former tag team champ – known for his days in Too Cool with Rikishi and Grand Master Sexay – suggested he can achieve great things.

‘I think Otis is still young too, he’s gonna eventually break out and become whatever he’s gonna become,’ he said. ‘I just feel like his personality is one of his strongest suits and I wanna see that come back, you know?’

Similarly, he pointed to Montez Ford as a star of the future, and had similar praise for his Street Profits tag team partner Angelo Dawkins.

‘Montez Ford’s another one. He still hasn’t been totally unleashed. He’s so entertaining – both of those guys, Dawkins and Ford, just fun characters,’ he said. ‘And I think, for Street Profits, I think it’s paying off! They really stand out on that show because they are such larger than life characters.’

Scotty noted there shouldn’t be an immediate rush for everything to click into place as he used the examples of himself, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, while he admitted the current generation don’t have quite the same leeway.

‘Sometimes it just takes time to grow and mold into what you’re gonna become and find that thing that really makes you take off. It took Austin how long? It took Rock how long? I started in ’89, didn’t become Scotty 2 Hotty until ’99,’ he said.

‘So it took me 10 years to get there. Now, we’re seeing people training from the ground up at WWE, some of them.

‘They’re trying to find themselves on international television, where I had the luxury of doing it on independent shows in front of 30 people. They don’t necessarily have that luxury.’
