Downton Abbey’s Rose Leslie and Theo James tug on the heartstrings in first trailer for The Time Traveller’s Wife series

Downton Abbey star Rose Leslie is melting hearts in the first trailer for The Time Traveller’s Wife.
The actress stars opposite Theo James in the TV adaptation of the bestselling novel by Audrey Niffenegger.
The drama has been highly-anticipated following the success of the book and the 2009 film, in which Rachel McAdams took the helm.
And with such an exciting cast, the upcoming six-parter promises for dreamy viewing.
The trailer was released on Tuesday and shows Rose as Clare Abshire, a young woman who falls in love with a time traveller, Henry (Theo).
Alas, she is left heartbroken time and time again as he is pulled away into time against his will, often leaving piles of clothes on the floor and water running as he’s swept into another moment.

‘I married a time traveler. It’s complicated,’ says Claire at the end of the teaser.
The HBO adaptation was directed by David Nutter and of course, there’s a whimsical soundtrack.
Sherlock show runner Steven Moffat wrote the series, and he had been a big fan of The Time Traveller’s Wife for years.
Before developing the show, the writer admitted he created Doctor Who’s The Girl in the Fireplace as a response to the novel.
Steven previously told Deadline: ‘What is thrilling of the interaction of time travel and a love story here, is it makes the most common phenomenon of a completely happy marriage, interesting again.

‘Love stories, or love movies, tend to end at the altar. We never do the bit where people are perfectly happy for decades because it seems like a dramatic thing.’
He continued: ‘By scrambling it all up and constantly reminding you that love is inextricably linked to loss, which is a cheery thought, you make this very common phenomenon of a happy marriage, thrilling and full of attention and tragedy.’
Lovers of the Game of Thrones and Divergent actors have taken to Twitter to express their excitement for the drama, and it’s established quite the fan base already.
‘WOW!!!!! This looks beautiful and like it’s going to be incredibly emotional,’ one wrote.
‘Oh my, this will be a huge hit. I’m so excited to see it and #TheoJames is spectacular in anything,’ said another.
One gushed: ‘They look soooo perfect together!!’

Also starring will be Desmin Borges (You’re the Worst), Kate Siegel (Midnight Mass), Josh Stamberg (WandaVision), Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick), Michael Park (Stranger Things), and Will Brill (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).
An exact release date has yet to be revealed, but HBO has confirmed that the series will be released in May, so there isn’t long to wait.
