“Part of a Dance Crew”: NBA Twitter Goes Wild After Rare Photo Emerges of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant Greeting Stephen Curry During His NCAA Days

The story of how Stephen Curry came into the NBA has inspired many. It truly is an example of how greatness has emerged despite the odds. As an undersized guard, Curry did not receive any scholarships from top NCAA Division 1 schools and finally ended up at Davidson College. Here was when Curry’s performances caught the eyes of many. In 2008, the Wildcats of Davidson went on a Cinderella Run during the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Led by Curry, they upset big names such as Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Wisconsin, but lost out in the Elite Eight.

It was during Curry’s time at Davidson that he met Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, and a picture of the greet was taken. That picture has now resurfaced on Twitter and fans can’t get enough of it.

Fans react to Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and Kevin Durant

The rare photo of the trio emerged on Twitter in light of Curry’s birthday. This put fans in a storm as many fans trolled the fashion sense present in the photo, especially that of Westbrook’s.

Additionally, some fans reminisced about the game during which this meeting occurred. It was a matchup between Davidson and Oklahoma. While Davidson had the presence of Curry, Oklahoma had Blake Griffin in their lineup. Moreover, both young stars put up strong numbers in the game.

What’s crazier is I was at that game. Steph had 44 points, and Blake Griffin had 25 points and 21 rebounds. https://t.co/h6LbL6mnps

Yeah one of the best games I’ve covered. Blake had 25 & 21. Steph went for 44. https://t.co/1LI9wgJHN4

Furthermore, fans even cited the fact that Curry was the oldest among the trio, but played in the NBA only after KD and Westbrook. Some even claimed that Curry was the greatest among the three, without whom Durant would have never won a title with Golden State.

Crazy how Steph is the oldest of the 3, got to the NBA the last and latest, and ended up being the best of the 3.

Steph would become the best player in the picture

KD would rely on that guy to get him a ring

Craziest part is that he was older than both of them in the picture

Clearly, the fans were taken aback by the picture. Moreover, it showed how much of a phenom Curry was in the NCAA. He would then carry the same talent to the Warriors and become one of the best ever to play the game.

Curry and the Warriors

It was in the 2009 NBA draft that the Golden State Warriors would use their 7th pick to draft Curry. Although the young star would be plagued with injuries, he was able to bounce back and become the superstar that he is today.

Along with him, the Warriors would draft Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. This formed a big three in Golden State which let to the franchise winning a title in 2015. In the next season, the trio attained the best regular-season record of 73-9. Although they lost the title in 2016, the Warriors added Kevin Durant into the mix to form an extremely dominant squad who won 2 titles in a row in 2017 and 2018.

This year, the Warriors look to get back to the mountaintop of the NBA. Led by Curry, they currently have the 3rd best regular-season record of the Western Conference. With the Warriors most likely headed to the postseason as one of the top teams, they will hope that the experience of Curry, Klay, and Green will lead the franchise to another title.
