Selma Blair has marked MS Awareness Month with resilience, strength and poise while sharing a poignant video.
The actress, 49, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2018, and has since been candid about what it’s meant for her to manage the condition while also having a career and caring for her 10-year-old son Arthur.
MS is a condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.
On Tuesday, Selma shared a video to her Instagram page that included a slideshow of throwback photographs depicting her battle with the autoimmune disease.
The images range from the Cruel Intentions actress undergoing painful treatments in hospital to socialising with old co-star Sarah Michelle Geller, and walking with a cane.
Captioning the post, she wrote: ‘March is #MSAwareness month. May we all find the strength to persevere.’
In October 2021, Selma shared an in-depth look at her life with MS, when she released the documentary Introducing, Selma Blair.
The film tracked her experience of undergoing life-altering stem cell treatment in order to kick-start her immune system, to the slow and painful flare-ups of the disease and invasive chemotherapy.
Speaking to People magazine at the time of the film’s premiere, Selma admitted: ‘I’m scared because it’s a lot.’
She added: ‘It was a really hard time in my life.
‘People don’t say how excruciating, emotionally, it can be to kind of prove you’re not well. But I want to tell the truth about MS.’

The treatment requires an aggressive course of chemotherapy, and it has a long recovery period.
Since undergoing the treatment, Selma has reported seeing ‘huge improvements’ in her MS, to the extent that she can now enjoy activities such as horseback riding once again.
Speaking to People magazine, she said: ‘The severe fatigue is still such a gargantuan boulder in my way’.

She added: ‘I’m working on it. Little by little, I can do all these things,’ she said.
‘I mean, I can’t say I could go running, but I can jog down to the mailbox if I were to practice a few times.’
