It’s almost about time to start playing The Boys Are Back, as the countdown for season 3 has begun.

The highly popular series was created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Eric Kripke, and is essentially the antithesis of the traditional superhero legends.

Lead by supervillian Homelander (Antony Starr), The Seven (who are painted as the saviours of the United States) are actually a team of caped crusaders using their incredible superpowers for selfish gains.

America is blindsided by the slickest PR machine going, much like the very real idolisation of celebrity culture, and in turn, the squad of supers can quite literally get away with murder.

As the episodes get darker and darker, the story follows Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) who sets out to get his revenge on the super speedy Seven member A-train (Jessie Usher) who ploughed down Hughie’s girlfriend in season one.

In his quest for revenge, Hughie’s world turns upside down when he befriends the vigilante group, The Boys, lead by chief rebel Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).

When will The Boys season 3 come out?

The Emmy-nominated show will return to Amazon Prime and release the first three episodes of the highly-anticipated season on Friday 3rd June.

New episodes will then be available each Friday following, leading up to the epic season finale on July 8.

How many episodes are in The Boys season 3?

With eight episodes in each of the first two seasons, season 3 will stick to the trend.

This season, we’re expecting even more chaos and carnage, as Amazon has revealed new superhero Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.

Not much about his role in the show has been teased, but in the original graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Soldier Boy has an enigmatic backstory.

After being injected with Compound V formula in 1944, he fought and killed German soldiers at the height of conflict across Europe.

The trailer has left us desperate for more, and as the last two seasons have stepped up the game, we can only expect this season to be darker and funnier.

Nathan Mitchell, who plays Black Noir, hinted that the stakes are only going to get higher, when he spoke exclusively to Metro.co.uk: ‘I think the nice thing about the show is there’s an upping of the stakes, like the stakes from season one [are] upped in season two and so I think in that same way, we’re gonna raise the stakes again.’

Issuing an ominous warning, he added: ‘Danger will be waiting around every corner with higher and greater consequences.’

Lead-star Urban previously teased the third season, promising a ‘next level diabolical’ return with a behind-the-scenes picture featuring new star Ackles.

‘Celebrating the arrival of the most excellent @jensenackles aka Soldier Boy & the halfway point of shooting season 3 of @theboystv,’ Karl wrote, posing next to Jensen and Hughie Campbell star Jack Henry Quaid.
