Ex-Arsenal star Marc Overmars more than doubles salary in new Royal Antwerp job after leaving Ajax in shame
MARC OVERMARS’ new role as technical director at Royal Antwerp is bagging him more than DOUBLE the salary he earned at Ajax.
The former Arsenal star was kicked out of the Dutch club amid allegations he had sent inappropriate text messages to staff.

He was quickly recruited by Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp on the back of his impressive track record as Ajax director of football.
And his new side were prepared to pay big money in order to recruit the 48-year-old to their backroom staff.
Overmars is earning over £830,000-per-year in his new role, according to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.
That’s more than DOUBLE his yearly wage at four-time Champions League winners Ajax, which was claimed to be around £330,000.

Although Overmars’ position in Amsterdam did include performance related bonuses.
It’s currently unknown whether Antwerp are offering the former Gunner similar incentives in his new role.
The club are hoping Overmars can mirror the signings he made at Ajax, including the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Davinson Sanchez, who were brought to the club before selling them on for huge fees.
He also helped improve Ajax’s academy structure and helped kickstart the careers of Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek, all of whom were also sold for big money.

Overmars said he was ashamed of his behaviour when standing down from his position at Ajax after he was found to have sent X-rated images of himself to colleagues.
He said in a statement: “I am ashamed. Last week I was confronted with reports about my behaviour. And how this has come across to others.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t realise that I was crossing the line with this, but that was made clear to me in recent days. I suddenly felt enormous pressure. I apologise.
“Certainly for someone in my position, this behaviour is unacceptable. I now see that too. But it is too late. I see no other option but to leave Ajax.
“This also has a major impact on my private situation. That is why I ask everyone to leave me and my family alone.”
