“Somebody Russian… He Starts to Speak English, He Can’t!”- Khamzat Chimaev on Why He Won’t Follow Kamaru Usman’s Path & Box Canelo Alvarez

Khamzat Chimaev is definitely on top of the rising star charts in the UFC. His charisma, raw talent, and open nature to approaching the sport have racked up hundreds and thousands of fight fans worldwide. 

People have been trying to get ‘Borz‘ on an interview a lot more often than he cares to give one. This is probably given how busy he is with training. However, the latest friendship in the UFC is a duo that no one wants to miss. 

Darren Till and Khamzat Chimaev appeared for an interview on ‘The Triple C & Schmo’ show in which they discussed a wide range of topics.

Naturally, pitting UFC fighters against boxers has become a tradition now. When Chimaev was asked about Canelo Alvarez, and if he would ever fight him, he responded- 

“I never gonna do that. Because I’m understand how…Because like it’s not my game. If he comes to my game, Canelo if comes to UFC if fights with me, I can take 10 seconds. I gonna let him sleep, you know?… The guys never did wrestling, grappling, nothing you know ground and pound, these things. Yeah, he can’t do it.”

The Swede further added, “Like you have like your own language, you speak all English and back home somebody Russian, he speaks only Russian and he come directly to you saying like start to speak English, he can’t. That the same way he can’t box and go to jump in from there. This is like different game like football and basketball you know?“

Khamzat Chimaev will look to move one step closer to the title at UFC 273 

Chimaev has made it more than clear that he will not enter the boxing ring. This is because it involves going into another champion’s turf and will delay his ambitions of achieving gold in the UFC.

Khamzat Chimaev was making strides despite fighting lower-ranked opponents in the UFC. His dominance of his previous opponents and the media notoriety he racked up earned him a shot against the number #2 ranked welterweight in the division, Gilbert Burns.

If Chimaev were to defeat Burns dominantly, he could be fast-tracked to face ‘The Nigerian Nightmare‘ himself next.

Moreover, Chimaev is also interested in the middleweight title, hinting that he could probably move up a weight class to dethrone Israel Adesanya.

Given his single-minded focus in MMA, it may just happen.
