“Scottie-Led Bulls When Michael Jordan Retired?”: NBA World Goes Gaga as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks Get Blown Out by Grizzlies Without Ja Morant

Ja Morant has been brilliant for the Memphis Grizzlies this season. Subsequently, Giannis Antetokounmpo has been exceptional all season long as well. The two sensations of the season have been in top-notch form. Few players have outperformed these two. However, we could not see the two battle it out on the court against each other on Saturday night.

Recently, the Milwaukee Bucks visited the Memphis Grizzlies. As such, the Grizzlies showed their utter dominance and proved why they are the team with the second best record (52-23) in the league. Consequently, they cleaned out Giannis’ Bucks 127-102.

Despite Giannis’ 30 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists, the Bucks fell way short. Although the Grizzlies were without their young protagonist Ja Morant yet they fashioned a comfortable victory. Even without their star man, they were decisive, convincing and proved how good a team they are. It is shocking how successful the Grizzlies have been even without one of the best players this season. Following the game, NBA coach Stan Van Gundy showed his astonishment on Twitter.

NBA Twitter stunned with Grizzlies’ form without Ja Morant

Stan Van Gundy tweeted recently about how crazy it is that the Grizzlies have actually done better with the absence of one of the best players in the NBA this season.

OK. This is getting crazy. Memphis just beat Milwaukee by 25 without Ja Morant. And yes Giannis and Middleton both played. The Grizzlies are 17-2 and blowing people out when they are missing one of the NBA’s best players. I’ve never seen anything like this.

A fan compared Grizzlies without Ja to a Bulls’ side when MJ retired and led by Scottie Pippen instead.

Stan made sure to emphasize the fact that it was actually even crazier than it looks.

They were good but not as good as when they had Jordan. The Grizzlies win 63% of their games with Morant and 89% without him.

The fans were bewildered and reacted to the tweet.

It’s the regular season. The bulls didn’t really lose more regular season games because Jordan didn’t play, they just didn’t win the playoff series. You should know better than anyone regular season is about effort and not much is given on a basic night. They play hard w/o Ja

This is similar to two years ago when Toronto went 17-5 without Kawhi Leonard, or even two years earlier than that with the Warriors going 33-2 without Kevin Durant. Both of those teams had enough balance, depth and unity on their teams that their could take care of (1/2)

KD was never the most important player on the warriors. Their record without KD vs their record without Steph proved that. pic.twitter.com/ZqNY2MvyvF

It’s been fascinating to watch as a Grizzlies fan, only thing I can think of is that when Ja is out the other guys elevate their games. If we can get the other guys to play this well with Ja on the court as well (like their 11 game win streak) they can win it all.

It proves that he is not the most “valuable” player when they win 89% of the games he misses and blow people out.

It’s called building a developmental culture around your star player. This team was assemble to help Ja and each other.
Every boat is rising, along with the tide, because the goal is to win.

It is true that Ja Morant is one of the most talented players in the NBA right now. However, the Grizzlies are not completely dependent on him. Ja is still only 22 years old and will chase to find his prime in the years to come. However, the team without Ja lifts their game.

With Ja, the game is often played around him. But against the Bucks, Memphis had 5 different players with points in double digits. This only shows their versatility and ability to blow out oppositions.

Whatever might explain Grizzlies form with and without Ja Morant, it’s working. Currently, the Memphis Grizzlies are 2nd seed. They have already qualified for the playoffs. And they will hope that even with Ja Morant, the entire team can turn up and play their best basketball in pursuit of the NBA championship.
