Holby City viewers overwhelmed as Fletch declares his love for Jac Naylor in heart-wrenching scene

HOLBY City fans were unable to control their emotions tonight after Alex ‘Fletch’ Fletcher told Jac Naylor he ‘loved’ her following her shock death.

In the last ever episode of the long-running BBC medical drama, Jac – who was battling a brain tumour – suffered a stroke and died.

Earlier, she had told Fletch to pen her an Advanced Decision to Refuse Treatment form (an ADRT), which meant neither he nor his colleagues could save her life.

Jac, played by Rosie Marcel, was declared brain dead and her organs were prepared for transplant donations.

Once her machines were turned off, Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw) visited his once former flame to say his final goodbyes.

Placing his hand on her forehead while blinking back tears, he simply said: “I’ve gotta go. Love you, Jac.”

SAD GOODBYE

Devastated Holby City fans all say the same thing as drama comes to an end

Holby City viewers were left sobbing at the heartbreaking scene, with one writing on Twitter: “As someone who wanted jac and fletch to end up together, watching him cry at her bedside is like having my heart ripped out of my chest.”

Another admitted: “Fletch last words (to Jac) have absolutely broken me!”

And a third fan added: “Trying my best not to cry..honestly the whole Jac & Fletch thing.”

Others were devastated that Jac and Fletch never ended up together with a ‘happily ever after’ as the long-running BBC show drew to a close.

“I’m an emotional wreck. Why couldn’t Jac have a happy ending with Fletch?” one Holby viewer asked.

Another wrote: “As much as the end of Holby being represented by the death of Jac Naylor makes so much sense to me, I just wish more than anything that she could have been happy and healthy and got her happy ending with Fletch and their kids.”

Two bedroom flat on sale for £850,000 – but it comes with an incredible secret

Holby City first aired on the BBC in 1999 but, last summer, the BBC announced it was being axed in a programming shake-up.

The final episode ended with a powerful and moving tribute to the NHS, praising all the crucial, life-saving work its staff do against a backdrop of under funding and under staffing.
