Inside GMB hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley’s most explosive clashes from rows over ‘patronising her’ to debates

SUSANNA Reid and Richard Madeley often have different opinions while hosting Good Morning Britain.

But viewers are convinced that recent clashes between the pair indicate something more than healthy disagreements.

Viewers insist Richard regularly ‘patronises’ Susanna

Susanna, 51, and Richard, 65, most recently locked horns over Will Smith’s shock outburst at the Oscars.

Former This Morning host Richard suggested Susanna was in the camp who agree with Will slapping Chris Rock over remarks about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

But Susanna fired back: “I understand that he did it. I just don’t think it’s ok that he did it, and I love Will Smith.”

And it’s not the first time their on-screen behaviour has led fans to believe they’re feuding off-screen.

‘Patronising’

During a fast-paced news show like Good Morning Britain it can sometimes be hard to get a word in during a debate.

But viewers often hit out at Richard for “patronising” Susanna by cutting her off and dismissing her.

One angry fan fumed on social media: “How Susanna Reid hasn’t thumped Richard Madeley yet is beyond me.

“He’s the most patronising, self centred, arrogant and ignorant p****, who never lets Susanna speak. He keeps cutting her off and ending interviews when she isn’t ready!”

Licence fee disagreement

Earlier this year Susanna and Richard had a fiery debate over the BBC licence fee.

Richard made his feelings clear, saying: “Why should I be paying for Radio 1 that I never listen to?

“Why should I be subsidising Radio 3 which I never listen to? I actually listen to Classic FM, rather than Radio 3… there are all sorts of BBC services which cost a lot of money that I’m paying for in my licence fee. Why should I?”

But Susanna didn’t agree and hit back: “What comes to mind when you say ‘why should I pay for the BBC licence fee when I don’t listen to Radio 1 or Radio 3?’… you pay for the NHS through your national insurance, even though you may never want IVF, for instance. Or may never need cancer treatment.

“There’s plenty of things available on the NHS that you would never access.”

Mask or no mask

One of their most heated fall-outs came when they were discussing the rules around wearing masks with Dr Hilary Jones.

Ahead of Freedom Day in July last year, when many Covid-19 restrictions were removed in the UK, Richard said: “This is the first show I’ve come in thinking basically we’ve got nothing but good news this morning, the football, the 19th. I mean we can actually sort of relax and celebrate a bit.”

Will Smith finally apologises to Chris Rock for ‘poisonous’ Oscars slap

But a bemused Susanna was quick to remind him: “”Erm… infections are going up, you know that. Hospitalisations are going up.”

Cutting Susanna off, Richard replied: “You and I are different on this but hospitalisations are only going up a little bit.”
