Dyson launches bizarre ‘headphones mask’ that filters air before you breathe it in – AND it even plays music

FORGET vacuuming – Dyson is hoping to breathe fresh air into headphones with its oddest invention yet.

The firm has unveiled a futuristic Daft Punk-like wearable called Dyson Zone that doubles up as a pair of Bluetooth over-ear headphones and an air filter mask.

Dyson says the wacky idea didn’t come about because of coronavirus, they’ve actually been working on it for more than six years as a way to provide clean air in dirty cities.

Pollution conscious music lovers receive a purified airflow to the nose and mouth through a non-contact removable visor.

Filtration and motor bits are nestled tightly within the headphone cans.

The company used its existing expertise in vacuum motors and acoustics to not only make the motors as tiny as possible, but also extremely quiet.

Loo-king good

It’s capable of sucking up 99% of tiny particles, including dust, pollen and bacteria.

Billionaire founder Sir James Dyson‘s son, Jake, revealed the invention, saying: “Air pollution is a global problem – it affects us everywhere we go.

“In our homes, at school, at work and as we travel, whether on foot, on a bike or by public or private transport.

“The Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe on the move.

“And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturised air pumps.

“After six years in development, we’re excited to deliver pure air and pure audio, anywhere.”

Experts came up with the final product after more than 500 prototypes.

The very first design was a bulky snorkel-like clean air mouthpiece paired with a backpack to hold the motor.

Wearers can choose from three different sound options, including isolation mode to activate noise cancelling.
