NASCAR Spotter Insinuates Favoritism for Big Teams Like Hendrick Motorsports With Brad Keselowski-Bubba Wallace Examples Amidst Track Limit Drama at COTA
One thing that all NASCAR fans would’ve noticed during the race in Austin would’ve been just how frequently cars were going off track, cutting corners, and exceeding track limits. Naturally, this was something for which the violators were penalized, but not fairly. In fact, NASCAR spotter Brett Griffin feels there could be some favoritism in the sense Bubba Wallace receives a penalty and (ironically) Brad Keselowski doesn’t.
In the recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Brett Griffin suggested that there may have been some favoritism in the way NASCAR handled the penalties for drivers who exceeded track limits in the recent race.
” I actually saw (Kyle) Larson short-cutting and I don’t understand why it’s so difficult in today’s world with the amount of technology we have to be consistent with these discretionary calls,” Griffin said. “TJ (Majors) could do it and get away with it, Freddie (Kraft) could do it and get penalized.”
“I heard them penalizing guys yesterday, and it was all backmarker teams, it wasn’t any superstars. I don’t know what they’re using to judge this area but whatever they’re using is inconsistent and they have to fix it.”

After Griffin’s comments, Freddie Kraft went on to reveal that he did, in fact, reach out to NASCAR regarding this subject. “I reached out last night to NASCAR comms folks and they simply said, ‘They missed it,’” Kraft said.
“You gotta remember, one thing in their defense is, it’s not one corner. I mean, for the most part, they were cutting one corner, but it’s a set of corners.”

As for discretionary calls, Bubba Wallace’s spotter kept his opinion of how things should be, simple and precise – “It’s either all four wheels on the racetrack, or all four wheels off the racetrack.”
