Wendy’s virtual reality restaurant is opening in the metaverse on April 2nd.

The Wendyverse Town Square Central will have basketball-themed VR games – keeping in line with Wendy’s sponsorship of the March Madness college basketball tournament.

It’s ambitious for a company whose slogan is “you know when it’s real.”

The Wendyverse will launch on Horizon World, a free platform developed by Meta.

“Wendy’s has always been an innovative leader in how they work with creators,” a Meta creative executive told PRNewsWire.

“Building this world is a great example of how brands can show up in Horizon Worlds in intentional, meaningful ways with their communities,” they said.

The fast food giant teased the Wendyverse with a tweet on March 30th, writing “Ready Player Bun” with an image featuring the iconic Wendy mascot donning an Oculus.

It’s unclear whether anything will be available for purchase in the Wendyverse.

For a time, Wendy’s sold NFTs and donated the proceeds to a charity in founder Dave Thomas’s name.

The company has been on top of marketing trends in the last five years – they scored a partnership with the show Rick & Morty that has yielded classic commercials and in-episode references to the brand.
