Post-covid more and more families are choosing to stay close to home for their summer holiday.

But if pitching a tent in a field isn’t your thing, you can take a page out of this mum’s book and try caravanning.

Kelly Whyton, 37, already had a caravan sitting in her driveway gathering dust.

When the mum of two decided to use the caravan again she discovered it had been taken over by damp.

She decided to get rid of the damp and give the caravan a complete makeover.

The savvy mum estimates that to do up the caravan professionally would’ve cost at least £5k.

Kelly managed to do finish the posh upgrades herself for less than £3k, saving a pretty penny.

Sharing with the Facebook group DIY On A Budget UK, she said: “We looked at getting a new caravan.

“The prices have been pushed up so much over the last couple of years we decided it would be good to try and redo ours as we loved the layout so much.”

The majority of the budget for the renovation went on a pricey combi boiler for the space.

“We had decided to add a combi boiler to the caravan as it had no heating so that’s what started it all.

“As we started to pull out the old heater we noticed a leak around the window.”

It was that leak which lead to the discovery of the awful damp that had taken over the old caravan.

Once the makeover began, Kelly made some stunning budget décor choices.

“The flooring and blinds came from eBay and all the accessories were from IKEA and Dunelm,” she shared.

Along with her husband, Kelly managed to finish the project in just five weeks.
