This housekeeper has seen and cleaned it all while working in a prestigious five-star hotel.

She implored keen cleaners to use household products like baking soda, vinegar and lemons to make their home shine.

CLEAN UP

I’m a professional cleaner – these are the things that everyone forgets about

“Using these, rather than proprietary cleaners avoids the use of harsh chemicals, which means that they are a more sustainable option,” she shared.

But the reasons Lisa opts for these more natural cleaners are not just enviromental.

They really work, the acid in vinegar perfectly cuts through grime and can “counteract sticky build-ups.”

The cleaning guru suggests rooting through the cupboards to find the long-forgotten tub of baking soda.

It’s not just great for cakes and cookies, the product can be mixed with vinegar to banish grime for good.

“When baking soda is mixed with vinegar the acid breaks down the baking soda, releasing carbon dioxide gas that can help lift dirt from the surfaces being cleaned,” Lisa said.

“Baking soda on its own is a mild alkali and can cause dirt and grease to dissolve easily in water, resulting in effective removal” she added.

And while your lemons might forgotten about since pancake day, there’s so much you can do with the cheap and cheerful fruit.

“High in citric acid, lemon juice is one of the best natural cleaners due to its low PH and antibacterial properties.

“Not only do lemons smell great, but they are also low cost, and they are not likely to cause damage to materials that are around the area that you are cleaning, such as fabric or wood,” the pro explained.
