A multi-casualty incident was declared on Saturday afternoon as 911 calls flooded the system.
“SBC Fire has declared an MCI (multi-casualty incident) associated with multiple medical emergencies including multiple severe traumas,” according to a tweet from the Santa Barbara Fire Department Public Information Officer.
“These are associated with heavy crowds in Isla Vista for the unsanctioned beach party known as Deltopia.
“Many balconies are overcrowded.”
Multiple medical emergencies have been reported in the Isla Vista neighborhood.
Local Santa Barbara news outlet Noozhawk claims a woman even fell off of a roof at one party location.
The outlet also reports that other medical issues have ranged from broken bones to possible overdoses involving alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two.
On April 1, three arrests were made and 20 citations were given, according to Raquel Zick, Public Information Officer at the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
Zick also told multiple media outlets there were seven reports taken and a traffic collision.
However, the party appeared to escalate on April 2, when Zick said first responders shifted to a triage system for medical emergencies right around 3.30pm due to an overwhelming number of calls.
