Grammys 2022: Foo Fighters sweep rock categories winning three awards after drummer Taylor Hawkins’ death

Foo Fighters have triumphed at the Grammys after winning three awards, just over a week after the death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins.
The rock band, consisting of Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee, was not in attendance at the awards in Las Vegas on Sunday as they continue mourning the death of their beloved bandmate.
Hawkins died suddenly at the age of 50 on March 25, and was found in his hotel room in Bogota, Colombia where the band were touring.
During the 64th Grammys, Foo Fighters dominated the rock categories and won all three awards they were nominated for: best rock performance, best rock song and best rock album for their latest record Medicine at Midnight.
Music producer Jimmy Jam did the honour of accepting the awards on their behalf.
It was previously announced that the band would not be at the Grammys, with a note on the Recording Academy website stating: ‘Foo Fighters will no longer perform at the 2022 GRAMMYs, although a tribute to Taylor Hawkins will take place.’

A tribute to the drummer is due to take place at the ceremony.
Bad Guy singer Billie Eilish paid tribute to Hawkins at the Grammys by performing wearing a T-shirt with a picture of Hawkins on the front.
Hawkins first joined the Foo Fighters in 1997, playing in the band fronted by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl for almost two decades, alongside Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee.
He previously toured with singer Alanis Morrissette, as well as drumming for band Sylvia, forming Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders and being one of the brains behind the supergroup NHC.

Foo Fighters have stepped away from the spotlight since Hawkins’ death but confirmed the news in a statement, which read: ‘The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.
‘His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.
‘Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.’
