NASCAR Hall of Famer Defends Hamlin-Harvick TV Botch With Kyle Larson & William Byron Explanation

Richmond was a great race for the fans. We got to see Denny Hamlin clench the first win for Joe Gibbs Racing, and some awesome battles on track between William Byron and Martin Truex Jr. However, the broadcasting of the race left a bitter taste in the fans’ mouths. Many felt that they put too much emphasis on the Byron-Truex battle. And, that led to borderline negligence towards race winner, Denny Hamlin, as well as, Kevin Harvick‘s progression up the grid.

Twitter saw a good share of fans going off at FOX NASCAR for the poor broadcasting. However, former NASCAR Cup Series driver Dale Jarrett had a different view.

Dale Jarrett reacts to the poor coverage of Denny Hamlin’s progression

The NASCAR on NBC Podcast featured Dale Jarrett who spoke about the issue. And, he had a different view.

He says, “There was a lot going on. I’m not just gonna fault FOX and the commentators there for not picking up on Denny (Hamlin) and Kevin (Harvick) a little bit sooner to get their progression through the field. Because, I felt like we were led to believe, and what we could see on the TV that this was gonna be a battle between could William Byron hold off Martin Truex Jr. for the biggest part of that last run”

He then added, “There was so much other stuff going on, we had Larson making an appearance in the top 5, for kinda the first time yesterday. So, you had to pay attention was he going to be able to pull this off, among others.”

All in all, The race at Richmond Raceway was indeed very fun, but the fans’ annoyance with the broadcasting makes sense. However, do you think Dale Jarrett has a good point?
