Bizarre iPhone update could cost you MORE money each month – are you affected?

WATCH out if you’re subscribed to a service like Disney+ via your iPhone as they could charge more without requiring you to explicitly accept it.

Apple is looking into new rules for automatic charges, which could be bad news for those who don’t pay attention to emails and notifications.

At the moment, the tech giant forces developers to inform affected subscribers of any price hikes and asks them to agree to it.

If the bill payer doesn’t tap that they agree, the subscription is automatically cancelled.

But that could be majorly changed.

Apple has revealed it is testing a new system where users are not explicitly asked for acceptance.

They’ll still be alerted to changes but if it’s missed, they could be in for a nasty shock, as the need to clearly agree will be gone.

Instead of cancelling the subscription for users in case they forget or didn’t notice, it’ll automatically roll onto the new price from the next payment.

The test was first spotted by a Disney+ subscriber who noticed the streaming platform highlighted a price increase “as mere notice instead of having to confirm”.

A screenshot shows a large OK button, alongside a smaller “review your subscription” link.

“Is this new behaviour for everyone or exclusive to Disney+?,” Max Seelemann asked on Twitter.

The German also received an email saying his subscription will be go up from €6.99 to €8.99 from March 19 “until cancelled”.

Apple has since told TechCrunch that the idea is indeed being tested with Disney+ at the moment.

However, it raises questions about how the tech giant will police the change so scammers don’t try to con people into suddenly paying loads more.
