NASCAR Xfinity Driver Sam Mayer Apologises to Official Hurt in his Brawl with Ty Gibbs

On Friday, the NASCAR Xfinity race concluded with Brandon Jones winning. However, the end of the race was marred because of a post-race brawl. Apparently, Ty Gibbs and fellow competitor Sam Mayer engaged in a classic NASCAR punch-up. As it turned out, Gibbs felt that he was in a great position to win, but Mayer denied him.

Sometime during the fight, an official who tried to break up the fight got injured. Later on, when he found out, Mayer was absolutely mortified. According to reports, the official was sent to the medical centre before he was later released. Apparently, Gibbs pushed the official out of the way, in order to attack Mayer.

Of course, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver did himself no favors in the popularity department. Meanwhile, Mayer found himself with a brand new legion of fans. A lot of fans sympathised with Mayer, because Gibbs was the aggressor in this scenario. While Mayer possibly instigated the incident on track, many felt that Gibbs’ reaction was uncalled for.

What happened between Ty Gibbs and Sam Mayer to prompt the incident?

On the final lap of the race, Mayer ran into the back of Gibbs and bumped him into the wall. As a result, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver lost the lead in what could have been a surefire win. The contact resulted in the #54 driver dropping all the way to 8th place. Obviously, this was a massive disappointment for the driver who felt that he was robbed of a victory.

Gibbs was so incensed that he stormed up to the #1 driver and socked him right in the face. Naturally, this prompted both hot-blooded drivers to try to maul each other to pieces. Fortunately, many came over to restrain them, including the unfortunate official. The poor fellow unintentionally ended up in the crossfire of the brawl, and was sent to the medical centre. Admittedly, NASCAR was silent about the person’s potential injuries. However, they confirmed that doctors will evaluate them soon.
