The season opener caught up with diarist Anne – who is known as the “first modern lesbian” shortly after wedding her wife Ann Walker.
While Ann, played by Sophie Rundle, struggled to go public about her marriage to Lister, cracks began to appear in the relationship.
Meanwhile, Anne’s scored ex lover Mariana tried to work her way back into her life with a series of unexpected love letters.
Actress Suranne, 43, was seen making her way around Yorkshrie as she tussled with business and escaped her relationship issues.

“Ten minutes into Gentleman Jack and I’m exhausted already,” a second joked of Suranne’s walking pace throughout the episode.
“I feel exhausted just watching Anne rushing about everywhere,” a third said, as someone else joked: “Step tally must be off the scale.”
“Anne please just sit down for a moment and relax, you’re tiring me out just watching you running around everywhere,” a fifth concluded.

Anne shared a passionate kiss with her wife, which soon led them to the bedroom to discuss ‘accounts,’ just 20 minutes into the show.
One said: “Gentleman Jack bloody hell pls pls slow down,” as a second added: “Well she’s just a little bit pleased to see her.”
