‘I Cried Like a Baby’: How Scottie Scheffler’s Wife Saved Him From a Masters Meltdown With a Powerful Statement
Winning a major championship is a dream for every golfer. Yet, one always makes mistakes and ends up losing due to the stress of winning. Scottie Scheffler had felt the same pressure before going into the final round of the Masters. However, he didn’t fall into it since his wife was there as a support system.
“I cried like a baby,” Scheffler said. He explained what the pressure of the possibility of winning a major did to him on Sunday morning. “I was so stressed out. Uh… I didn’t know what to do,” he added. He was talking at the press conference after his win at the 2022 Masters.
Scheffler had a 3-shot lead after against the closest competitor after the third round. While there is a chance that someone can outplay him and score better than him, he still had the possibility of winning. Unlike other championships, getting to wear the green jacket gave him so much pressure.
“I don’t think I’m ready for this. You know, I’m not ready,” the golfer explained what he said to his wife on Sunday morning. “I don’t feel like I’m ready for this kind of stuff.”

The stress would have made him lose the chance of winning his first-ever green jacket. However, he explained that his wife Meredith Scudder’s words helped him relieve all the stress.

“She told me, ‘Who are you to say that you are not ready?’” Scheffler said to the press. “And so what we talked about is… you know, that God is in control,” he added. “And that the Lord is leading me.”
He further added, “And if today is my time, then… then it’s my time.”
Scottie Scheffler won his first-ever green jacket!
Scheffler won the 2022 Masters with a 3-shot lead over Rory McIlroy. He scored a 1-under 71 in the final round to finish the tournament.
It is the fourth title that Scheffler has won in the last 56 days. Notably, the 2022 WM Phoenix Open is his first-ever victory on Tour, although he has been a part of the organization since 2020.
Scheffler’s impressive 10-under 278 gave him a major title, a green jacket to be proud of, and $2.7 million prize money.
When Scottie Scheffler took part in the Phoenix Open, he was just a 25-year-old golfer. However, 56 days later, he is the world no. 1 and a 4-time PGA Tour winner.
