‘Magical’: Golf World Reacts to Rory McIlroy’s Record-Setting Performance at the Masters

The 2022 Masters is officially over with the World Number one Scottie Scheffler triumphing. Scheffler played exceptional golf to win his maiden green jacket at Augusta National golf club. However, it was Rory McIlroy who created history at Augusta in the final round on Sunday and caught the attention of the golf fans.

The golf world saw just the right finish to a fascinating Masters. Rory McIlroy, who entered the final round at an overall score of one over par, had a mountain to climb to get close to the leader. But the Northern Irishman did just the same. He carded a record-breaking final round of eight-under-par, 64.

As a result, he tied the record for the lowest final-round score in the Masters history. McIlroy ended the major championship event with an overall score of seven-under-par. As a result, he finished in solo second position. He just came three shorts short of the leader in a runner-up finish.

On top of that, the highlight of his round came at the penultimate hole. McIlroy found himself in the greenside position with a very challenging short. He had to make a birdie on the Holly to apply some pressure on the leader. Moreover, Rory hit a beautiful bunker shot, dropped the ball on the correct spot, and just saw the ball roll inside the cup for a crucial birdie to end his final round on Sunday and executed the impossible shot brilliantly.

In jubilation, McIlroy threw the club and was celebrated the hole-out from the bunker with his arms in the air. Not to forget that Rory is yet to win the Masters. However, he might not have won, but he undoubtedly provided some fireworks to make his fans happy in the final round.

What did Rory McIlroy shoot in the final round?

The 32-year-old professional carded a firey eight-under-par 64 in his final round. His bogey-free round of 64 included four birdies on the opening nine holes. As a result, he moved out in four-under-par, 32. McIlroy made two birdies and an eagle on the back nine. As a result, he finished with an overall score of seven-under-par in the solo second position. Rory also won a prize money share worth $1.62 million.
