‘Now Only PS Workouts Possible’ – Daniil Medvedev Has a Funny Take On His Rehab

Things have not gone according to the plans of Daniil Medvedev after clinching the Number 1 ranking in February this year. Less than a month after overtaking Novak Djokovic in the ATP rankings, Medvedev lost the top spot to the Serb. This was a result of a disastrous campaign at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Gael Monfils, who has been in good form this year, stunned the 26-year-old in the third round in Indian Wells. Further, he suffered a quarterfinal exit at the Miami Open, losing to Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. Subsequently, Medvedev revealed that he has been playing with a small hernia over the last few months.

Recently, the 2021 US Open champion underwent surgery. He also provided the status of his condition following the surgery.

The former World Number 1 took to Instagram to update his fans after undergoing surgery to treat the hernia. Posting a story of him playing PS, Medvedev said, “It’s been a week since my surgery has been done. I’m feeling way better. Will start easy work-outs in a few days, now only PS workouts possible.”

Medvedev will undergo a rehabilitation process after the surgery. It will likely keep him out for about one to two months. Further, he is set to miss some important clay-court tournaments like the Monte-Carlo Masters, Madrid Open, and the Italian Open. However, Medvedev will hope to get back fit in time for the French Open. The clay-court Grand Slam tournament is scheduled to take place from May 22, 2022.

Medvedev will be disappointed with the timing of his injury, especially with some big tournaments coming up in the next two months. The 2022 Australian Open runner-up was striving to regain the top spot in the ATP ranking from Novak Djokovic. However, his untimely injury will only widen the gap between him and Djokovic in the ATP rankings points, making his life difficult to claim the top spot after his return to the tour.
