RUMOURS: 36-Year-Old Veteran Could Make Massive Return To Coach LeBron James’ Lakers After Frank Vogel Exit Confirmed

Frank Vogel’s like time with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers is over. Several sources and Adrian Wojnarowski have confirmed that Sunday night’s game was Vogel’s last game in charge and he will be let go on Monday. And along with that, several rumors have already started about who will be the next head coach. One such rumor involves a 36-year-old former player who could join the team as an assistant coach.

Rajon Rondo is a two-time NBA champion who has played on several teams. He was on the Lakers squad before being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. And he was also an integral part of the Lakers squad, which won the title in 2020. If reports are to be believed, if the Lakers hire Juwan Howard as their next head coach, Rondo could join the team as an assistant coach.

The Lakers might hire a former teammate of LeBron James as their next head coach

Howard is currently the head coach of the Michigan basketball team. He has led them to a record of 61-31 in the last three seasons and has made the NCAA tournament twice. He is also been a teammate of LeBron during his time at the Miami Heat. Howard has also been an assistant coach at the NBA level.

Rondo is considered to be one of the best IQ players in NBA history. LeBron has raved about Rondo‘s game sense and IQ in the past. If the Lakers decide to hire Howard and Rondo, they will be getting two elite basketball minds. Rondo has been an ex-teammate of Anthony Davis as well, and he will assist him to get back to his best.

But two will have their task cut out for them. The Lakers are coming off a disappointing season and they do not have a lot of cap space to sign anyone. Russell Westbrook could be on the trade block soon, and he is sure to attract interest. Veterans like Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, and Avery Bradley will all be free agents soon. They will need to rebuild this roster around LeBron and Davis. And make sure they get the right pieces to fit in. Otherwise, the Lakers will have a tough time next season as well.
