VIDEO: Diego Schwartzman Has a Massive Argument With Chair Umpire During a Battle Against Karen Khachanov at Monte Carlo Masters 2022

The clay has always been Diego Schwartzman’s best surface. He showed once again during his second-round match the Monte Carlo Masters 2022, why he is a force to reckon with. But, even though he won the match, it was not as if the meeting went without drama.

The argentine had a huge argument with the chair umpire, about a line call. In the third and deciding set, he argued about a shot regarding whether it was in or out. “Calm down. You can’t shout like that“, the chair umpire had to tell him, after he shouted a very loud “No” at the decision.

This exchange has drawn a lot of attention because of the way it unfolded, and the way the 12th seed from Argentine reacted to the issue! Generally known for being calm on the court, with a pleasant demeanor, this was rather unexpected from Schwartzman.

It might be because of this reaction as well, but his rhythm seemed a bit off. He was looking at being knocked out of the tournament when Khachanov broke his serve, but he regained his composure. He then managed to turn the match around to win 5 out of the next six games.

World No.16 Schwartzman showed his fighting spirit as he battled past a solid opposition from Khachanov. The scoreline at the end of the match stood at -7(5), 6-3, 6-3 in the Argentine’s favour.

What’s next for Diego Schwartzman

The farthest the argentine has come at the Monte Carlo Masters was in 2017 when he reached the quarterfinals. This year, he has been a finalist at the Argentina Open and the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, and his performance in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters shows the form that he is in!

We hope he manages to capitalize on this form and play the great tennis that we are used to seeing from him. In the second round Diego Schwartzman, 29, will be facing the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics who defeated South African Llyod Harris in a three-setter.
