“Thought He Had a Pebble In His Shoe” – Daniel Ricciardo’s Mom Reveals Her Reaction to Witnessing Shoey for the First Time

Daniel Ricciardo completed the Australian Grand Prix at P6. This was the first time in four years that the Australian scored points at his home, Grand Prix. Mclaren’s poor form seemed to avoid them at the Australian Grand Prix. Both Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo finished a well-fought Grand Prix.

Lando finished the race at P5 and right behind him, Daniel finished the race at P6. An excellent result for Mclaren as they scored points off of both the drivers. Something they are aiming for all the races to come.

Let’s talk about Daniel Ricciardo and the shoey

Ricciardo has been a consistently excellent driver for some time now which translates to podium finishes. A podium finish is always an enormous achievement for any driver. And they couple the celebrations with champagne for all the drivers. Every driver has his or her own style, but Daniel is unique.

Daniel Ricciardo’s podium finish has a unique celebration. He likes to drink champagne out of his show. That he has been driving around in, for 58 laps. You are not alone if you think that’s gross.

In the latest podcast from F1 Nation on spotify, host Tom Clarkson asked this exact question to Daniel’s mother. Tom asked, “When he gets up there and he’s drinking champagne, out of a shoe that he’s been driving around the track in for 58 laps, is that your idea as well?”. Daniel’s mother could not hold her laughter during the formation of the question.

To which she hilariously replied, “No, absolutely not! Shocked us the first time, I thought he had a pebble in his shoe when he took it off. And then he drank out of it.” But Daniel’s mother quickly supported her son. She added, “But it gets the crown going and he’s having a little bit of fun, which is good!”

Never change Daniel

Ricciardo has not finished on Podium since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix with Mclaren. In Italy, he even shared it with teammate Lando Norris and team principal Andreas Seidl. There was a shoey for all!

After his first at the German Grand Prix in 2016, Daniel has gotten a lot of opportunities to do the shoey. But nearly not enough if you were to ask the Australian. Podium finishes have come rarely since his switch from Red Bull, but Daniel is hopeful about his future with Mclaren.

Finishing his Australian Grand Prix at a high, Daniel will hope for at least one shoe in the current season.
