“It Just Feels Different”: Daniel Cormier On UFC’s New Prospect Ian Garry Being Different From Conor McGregor

Many see Ian Garry as the next Conor McGregor. However, Daniel Cormier does not really agree with this. In a new episode of ‘DC & RC’ on ESPN MMA, Cormier explained that there are some differences between McGregor and Garry that set them both apart from each other.

Cormier said, “People believe that he is the next coming of Conor. He’s a guy that can talk. But you know what’s a little bit different about Ian Garry? And I like Ian Garry but Conor told you how great he was. It was almost as if you kind of, it was almost endearing like, you’re like ‘Oh my god, I want to hear more from this guy’.”

“Ian Garry talks and it’s like ‘But you shouldn’t talk so much jus yet, Ian Garry’. It kind of hits you a little bit different in the way that you, and Ian’s a great kid. …. But it’s like, I don’t know what it is man. It just feels different. … When I see him on the mic and the post-fight interview goes a little long, the point doesn’t come across as clean as Conor…” said Cormier.

Cormier’s comments come after Garry’s recent win at UFC 273 against Darian Weeks. While many people see a young McGregor in Garry, ‘The Notorious’ has perfected his skills inside and outside the octagon over a period of time. Hence, seeing ‘The Future’ climb the UFC’s welterweight division will be interesting.

Currently, the fighter sports an undefeated record with nine professional wins. He has also been a champion at Cage Warriors where he made his professional MMA debut.

Ian Garry: On being compared to Conor McGregor

The fighter is just two fights old in the UFC. He made his UFC debut in 2021 at UFC 268 and won through a spectacular knockout in round one. Thus, he had a perfect start in the promotion.

Garry also went on to win his second fight at UFC 273. He won through a unanimous decision.

He also looks up to McGregor and does not mind being compared to him. As per Garry, it was because of ‘The Notorious’ that he was able to find the MMA sport. As a result, he attributes a part of his career to McGregor.

With all sorts of comparisons being drawn between both the Irish fighters, it would be interesting to see if the younger fighter carves a huge name for himself in the UFC as McGregor has done. What do you think?
