LeBron James Still Scratching His Head Over Bizarre WNBA Rule That Does Not Make Sense To Him

LeBron James is one of the greatest basketball players ever. The things he has done on and off the court for the game are tremendous. He has also voiced his support for many of the social issues which are important to address in today’s world.

This time around James tweeted his opinion about the WNBA. LeBron never went to college and did not play in NCAA tournaments but he has supported the NCAA whenever he could. Similarly, he has always shown keen interest in the game’s development whether it be college basketball, NBA, or WNBA.

The league requires draft entrants to be at least 22 years old during the year in which the draft takes place and has no remaining college eligibility or renounce any future college eligibility.

LeBron James questions the WNBA

LeBron recently tweeted his doubts about the rule of the WNBA which doesn’t allow high schoolers to feature in the draft. Even in the NBA, the high schoolers can decide to get enrolled in the draft and opt-out of college basketball to save their years and follow their ambitions of making it big early.

The biggest example of all is LeBron who skipped college. But that only depends on the individual capabilities of the player. ‘King James’ was confused about why female basketball players do not have the option to follow their dreams.

The problem with opening up the draft pool to high schoolers is that there are only limited spots. The NBA’s G-League is quite possibly the best development league for young players. It is sort of extra preparation for players who want to better their games and be 100% ready for the big league.

Erica L. Ayala of the New York Times reported, “Each season, players are caught in a revolving door of contracts for 144 W.N.B.A. roster spots. Many people inside and outside the league believe now is the time to expand team rosters or teams in the league, or both.”

“With only 12 teams and 12 roster spots on each team, the W.N.B.A. is harder to get in and stay in, than the N.B.A., especially with most players’ contracts not being guaranteed. The relatively low salaries also push players to make tough choices about when and where to play.”

Women’s basketball has outstanding professional players coming up to fight for the limited roster spots. The talent is overflowing and of an exceptionally high level. The WNBA has had the same number of teams since 2010. There might be a time soon when the number of teams increases and the spots automatically would increase.

But for now, opening the floodgates prematurely means allowing the younger players to feature in the drafts. This could lead to an overabundance of undrafted underclass players put in a difficult spot.
