Alex Albon Glorified With New F1 Nickname After Magnificent Australian GP Run

Alex Albon shocked the entire world with his run last week in Australia. The William driver bagged the first point for his team, but he did all this with just one pit stop and that too was at the very end of the race. So, he earned a new nickname for himself.

The Williams driver finished P10 after starting the race from the bottom of the grid in Australia. Albon had to start the race from P20, as he was disqualified from qualifying. He started the race with hard tires and was running on them throughout the race until he had to make that mandatory pit stop in the last lap.

Fans reacting to the new Tyre Whisperer

The Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez, is famous for his superior tire management. Checo is undoubtedly one of the best F1 drivers on the grid, and no one can beat him in limiting the tire wear. The Mexican driver has showcased his ability of tire management and using it to turn tides in a race many times.

However, Checo is no longer the only man with this title. After the 2022 Australian GP, Williams tweeted where they nicknamed Albon as ‘Tyre Whisperer’. But there are many fans who are not agreeing with Alex’s new nickname. As they believe, it’s only one race so far while Perez has been doing this for a long time. Even Red Bull racing called the William driver an apprentice of Checo in tire management.

Alex Albon on using hard tires for everything

Williams is no longer at the bottom of the constructor’s table, as Alex Albon got 1 point for his team after finishing P10 in Melbourne. Currently, Williams is at P9 on the constructors, ahead of Aston Martin.

Albon reveals how his car went faster when the fuel levels dropped and he could race even with wearing tires. After that glorious run on hard compound tires, Albon joked about using them for everything from practice sessions to the main race.

The Williams driver shared, “Because we weren’t graining, we just left [the hard tyre] on the whole time and I was just going quicker and quicker; as the fuel load was going down, it was just getting faster and faster. We have to understand why we’re good on that tyre compared to the others. At this rate, we just need to bring 10 sets of [hards] into the weekend and just qualify, race, do everything on it!”

The next race is in Imola, where fans will witness the first sprint race qualifying of the 2022 season. It would be fascinating to see whether Alex Albon would pull off another stunt like in Australia.
