Drama in Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers Opts Out of Green Bay Packers Offseason Program

Green Bay Packers will experience a feeling of Déjà vu with their QB Aaron Rodgers before the start of the 2022 NFL campaign. The 4-time league MVP will miss the Packers’ voluntary meetings and workshops ahead of their mandatory minicamp in June. Last season saw Rodgers missing this workshop and minicamp, but the situation is contrastingly different this time around.

The reigning league MVP signed a 3-year, $150 million contract extension with the organization this offseason. The first part of the offseason program will include team meetings, strength and conditioning training, and physical rehab. While the organized training activities (OTAs) will take place in May, Rodgers remains doubtful as he follows a particular routine.

The 10-time Pro Bowler will miss the OTAs on May 23. It will involve six different one- or two-day sessions running through mid-June. This mandatory minicamp, meanwhile, is scheduled for June 7-9. It will be just over a month before the expected start of training camp. Rodgers will hope his routine works wonders for a third consecutive season running.

Why is Aaron Rodgers not joining the team for OTAs?

The former Super Bowl champion has revealed in 2021 how he prefers having more time to himself. He did attempt at forgoing voluntary programs ahead of the 2021 season. It ended up becoming his second straight MVP campaign. The trend has been common among other veteran QBs, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady.

Even the 7-time Super Bowl champion has similarly skipped the start of offseason programs in recent seasons.

The veteran QBs seem to put more emphasis on mandatory preparations when they get closer to the start of the season.

The Packers will count on the trick working once again in the upcoming season as Rodgers prepares to go all out once again. The aim for the talented QB will be to capitalize on the small window that remains to win yet another Super Bowl championship.
