‘I’m Going to Look With My Team’- Novak Djokovic Says He Is Struggling Physically After the Monte Carlo 2022 Loss

Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis ace, has some splendid records, so much so that he is regarded as one of the big three of this generation. However, the current world no.1 hasn’t been in the circuit for quite some time due to his disagreement with Covid-related regulations.

But with the easing of restrictions, he made a comeback in the first event of the clay-court season. Although, Novak couldn’t prove his potential on the clay and packed his bags in the very initial round of Monte Carlo Masters.

What Does Novak Djokovic Have to Say?

Novak was out-muscled by 22-year-old Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 32 of Monte Carlo. He stretched the match to the third set by surviving a long second set. Even so, in the end, Alejandro got the better of him. However, a player of his caliber is always tied to expectations, thus his defeat brought him a lot of questions. While speaking about the same, he said, “Well, of course, I’m disappointed. No one likes to lose.”

“I didn’t like the way I felt physically in the third. I just ran out of the gas completely. Just couldn’t really stay in the rally with him. I mean, if you can’t stay in the rally, not feeling your legs on the clay, it’s mission impossible.” He added.

Though Novak didn’t have a long run in Monte Carlo. The 20 times Grand Slam champion has taken notes from the match and is hoping to perform better at home ground. As he said, “I’m going to look with my team into reasons why that was the case and go back to the drawing board and hopefully next week will be better in Belgrade.

The Record Only Djokovic Has

The two times Monte Carlo Masters victor, Novak, is the only person to win titles at Miami and Monte Carlo back-to-back. The 34-year-old after outclassing Andy Murray in the finals of Miami. Following that, he conquered Monte Carlo by defeating Nadal in the semis and Tomas Berdych in the finals in 2015.

Since Djokovic walked out of the Australian Open, he hasn’t been on the court that much. Apart from Dubai, he mostly skipped the entire hard-court season. But since the Serbian has tested himself, hopes will be held high for his performance in Belgrade.
