Gene Simmons might be one of the legends of rock, but the Kiss star has never succumbed to the vices commonly associated with musicians.

The 72-year-old, who is famous for his extremely long tongue and performing with the band in full face-paint and enormous boots, revealed the secret to still being able to take the stage is due to clean living.

He revealed his life advice on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, explaining: ‘Kids, if you don’t use drugs and you don’t smoke or drink, you can hold your hand in front of your face and it won’t do that [shakes hand].

‘It’s like a car engine – if you put some sand in it along with the fuel, it’s not going to work and you’re not gonna live long pal.

‘So clean life – by the way to takes away a lot of lines on your face, I’m not wearing any make-up at all. You should see me though, I wear more make-up and higher heels than the ladies do.’

Gene shared his best tips for a long and happy life, adding: ‘Clean life, surround yourself with no stress, just friends.

Most importantly – and slightly TMI – he concluded: ‘Go to the pub less, don’t do that stuff. You’re going to wind up throwing up on some girl’s shoes when you’re chatting.

‘You’re not going to remember and if you drink enough, your spankle’s not going to work. Don’t do it.’

Wise words.

Explaining why they are hanging up their boots after so long, Gene admitted that some artists carry it on ‘too long’ and they want to bow out before they reach that stage.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
